TS last night..

She beat me auto-victory in turn 9 with the USSR.. I was doing fine until around turn 5... that is when she went and changed from the outfit you see in these pics to something with MUCH less material. Is that legal!!?? She was beating me in this pic by 10 and it was only the start of turn 2... I made a comeback and was up by 4 by the end of turn 4.

Bulge

Top 3 Bulge games.

I’d rate the best Bulge games as follows: (picked in order of complexity and I picked what I thought was the best for each level)

WR2: for simulation value can’t be beat. A map to die for and about a million counters and page rule book. If I had a few free weeks and a place to play it I’d be in grognard heaven. Simulating the entire battle on Battalion level! The Artty and supply rules are what makes the game hard but are worth it.

Ardennes 44: Best game to play solitaire of need be as well. The rules are tight but a bit much for a lot of casual wargamers. Once you know them the game flows well and really recreates a feeling of pressure and tenseness the commanders must have felt on a larger scale. Problem is that it is a high-water game. There is no way to play the American counter offensive.

Bitter Woods: Pretty and simple. It is a very nice game with amazing counters and art. Make sure to use all the optional rules otherwise in my opinion the Germans don’t really a hope in He-“double hockey sticks” of pulling off their victory conditions. The rules are simple but there are a lot of little rules and exceptions to remember. This game also incorporates the American counter attack. This is the first game I’d buy off this list if I had none of them.

From an old BGG question sent to me

Hey Joe, I don't like "random" king making. But if a player has created an enemy out of me in the game, then I don't mind handicapping them a bit. I also play play to win however, to me, fun is more important than that.

There is nothing random about King-making when I King-make. I go for who ever ticked me off the most or who is winning (especially if they have won more then one game that night).

You see, that is why Euro’s need player elimination…. So jerks like me can’t screw with those in contention when I have no real chance of winning.

King-making keeps me engaged in an otherwise boring game. Who cares about being 4th rather then 5th? That is such a wussy argument.

Ya-ya-ya, everyone is a winner, “little Billy here is you “participation” ribbon”. We are not kids playing Candyland, I am in to win and I expect that you are in for the same. If I want a social event I’ll play a party game or go roast some smores and sing Kumbaya.

I love meta-gaming and king-making they go hand in hand like Rosie and pair of cement shoes. The problem is when players start taking it serious and personal… that is when I back off and realize… “Ok, I need to find a different gaming group”.

Common people, it is just a silly little, pasted on theme, random, eurogame… who cares If I take the Builder for no legitimate reason and you wanted him to make your grand-master plan work. I love doing that!

cool, minus the name they put on it.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the mecha anime/manga/toy/video game franchise, this 18-meter-tall (59-foot-tall) RX-78 has been erected.

Part of the "Mobile Suit Gundam 30th Anniversary Project," the structure in Odaiba's Shiokaze Park will stay up for only two months and be built from fiberglass-reinforced plastic over a steel frame and coated in a layer of awesomeness.

Point to Point # 39

Just listened to Point to Point #39...

here are my thoughts: blow by blow as I listen.

OK, everyone is busy...enough with the excuses, if I can't use them neither can you. :)

PoG... well designed game but I just don't get into the theme. Too much going on for a CDG for me. While not as scripted as B2B I just don't like it. The Allies are very hard to handle in the West. I've never seen a Central player go hard at the West. Then again, I don't play this game a lot. I also sold this game off. Sorry guys you spent too much time on this game.

WW: I sold mine off. enough said. It got old to me.

Titan w/ Moritz... watch out he cheats! lol, never played it. Silly Kraut!

War at Sea: fun classic, make sure to play it the right way.

PDS... never played it but Worthington Games is a great little company. Columbia's Three rounds battles are a bit gamey.. I prefer battling until someone breaks. Knowing the battle will end after round three has made some doing some crazy tactics. Give them a call.

CC:A.... I am trading mine off.. want it?

I am a listener! Keep it up.

BKN! Oh-yea, didn't you kick my butt in this once? I need to another get into another game.

Diplomacy: I am a DIP-ADDICT! Where are you playing at? I am currently playing a game at Dip2000 as an Austrian... 1901 still with three week turns. I really want to play a face to face game so bad! The blame game... ya so? I love the blame game. Dip hangover... equals a massive headache for me.

You played Catan at a con! Yuck! wow, the respect level dropped a little.

Prez Con: Never been, VA is so far away. One day.. maybe.

Nappy Wars... Not a big fan.

I enjoy play-testing.... but I normally play test games that are already in production. LoL

Your method of learning games reminds me of Tom and I in Korea... Tom teaches us, we beat Tom...

Worthington WW2 game! Cool, sign me up.

Sci Fi games... not much out there for serious gamers other then SFB. Don't mes with the light, just push them right in. Use a smaller battle. Buy the micromachine Trek models off of ebay.

I don't like fantasy to much...kid stuff. :-)

WW2 is where it is at. Sorry, I am not with you on the fringe themes. 75% of all I own is WW2. European is best, being more specific... Bulge, DDay, Stalingrad...

Moritz... going through Turkey! What a nut!

BGG rankings are screwed up.

Looking forward to the next one.

Origins

Hey,

Just confirmed with work, I will be at Origins! I will be arriving either Wednesday night or early Thursday. (what is going on Wednesday worth coming down for?) I look forward to meeting a lot of you and get reacquired with some as well. I'll be spending all my time between the warroom and the boardroom. Warning, I miss Tom so I'll be clingy around him!

Also, this is really cool! Monica (my wife) will be there Fri-Sun! She has never been and is excited at the chance. This means "A" I will be spending more time in the boardroom then I might of and "B" please feel free to introduce and challenge her to some gaming. As I've said on the show and here at BGG she is a great player. We are gonna make it a date weekend. NO KIDS!!!!

Joe

Click Click

Why is it that in every movie when someone uses a shotgun they decide to cock it at the most inopportune time? Ya sure, I'm gonna hold up a bank but I am going to wait to rack in a round after I announce "This is a robbery!" I guess the thought that a guy with a CCW or an armed guard will be to slow to get the drop on him as he loads his weapon? I just watched Assault on Precinct 13, what a joke. The swat guy racks in his round as he breaches the perimeter. The American public has been so trained and is so ignorant that I really think that they need to hear that recognizable "click click" to feel that it is real. People are so stupid. Sorry just had to say it.
